I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of past papers from any "Advanced" level ICT qualifications. We are using the Cambridge CIE Applied A level for our year 12 students, but it's a new qualification and there are no past papers. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi! I'm a student doing CIE AS AICT 9713, and I think you're teaching the same syllabus in your school. I'm the only one in my school doing it, and currently do not know anyone else doing the same exam. I wanted to request you if you could give me some contact details of your students doing this syllabus so I can share my thoughts and ideas with them. Oh yeah, and I find the OCR past papers quite good for our syllabus, especially for the section "How organisations use ICT", and also the CIE Advanced Diploma in ICT past papers for the practical part. It is almost the same as the AS exams, and it helped me alot for my Paper 2!! Anyways, I'm really glad to know that AICT is being taught somewhere else in the world!! Please do consider my request.

Saman, I could pass your contact details onto my students but their course has ended and we will not be offering either A2 or AS next year as the school is moving towards an IB syllabus. I think it's great that you are tackling this on your own. There are a few schools Thailand offering CIE- I would try contacting British Schools via FOBISSEA. They will have a list of schools in South East Asia. I agree the Advanced papers and the OCR have been very useful. Also the text book comes out in September. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

Good Luck

I really appreciate your consideration...and I don't want you going through the trouble of find schools from me... and plus, my own school has agreed to offer it as a subject instead of computing from next year onwards. Anyways, thanks alot for your help. P.S. Yeah, i found out that the book's got delayed to sept, ws supposed to come out in jan, but nevertheless i downloaded the 2 sample chapters available, except that databases didn't even come!!

Hi Maha
I'm not sure what you mean by "activity" Not "tutorial". We don't use books too much for the IGCSE practicals- the "Teach yourself.......... visually" books are good- but may cover more than you need
The following links are links to activity booklets and tutorials- but I suspect you may have seen these already. They are written for MS Office 2003- so if you will be using 2007 at the test centre you would be better to look elsewhere.
If using MS Office 2003 you can learn most of the database skills you need from the database workbooks on
http://www.teach-ict.com/key_skills/database_home.htm
Similarly for spreadsheets at
http://www.teach-ict.com/key_skills/spreadsheet_home.htm
Once you have been through these look at the syllabus and check what else you need to learn.
Hope this helps. If this is not what you need, let me know.

Yes- sorry. the www.teach-ict.com site doesn't really help a lot on the advanced skills. Finding materials is hard I agree. I gave my students practice using past papers from the Cambridge International Diploma in ICT - Advanced level http://www.cie.org.uk/qualifications/vocational/dipict (which is now replaced by the Cambridge International Diploma in IT). I'm allowed to post past papers here - but you might be able to find copies somewhere else. They were pretty similar to the AS paper. I did put some other resources together for my students, which I can send on to you- give me a day or two..
Have you sat the AS yet?
